Granville High School Welcomes New Principal
Scott Hinton

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Scott Hinton as the new Granville High School principal. Mr. Hinton was approved during the April 11 Granville Board of Education meeting.

We will host a Meet & Greet with Mr. Hinton on Tuesday, May 10, from 7:00-8:00pm in the GHS Commons. Please come and welcome Mr. Hinton to our community!

Mr. Hinton is an experienced and established leader, having served as principal of Amanda-Clearcreek High School since 2017. Prior to becoming principal, Mr. Hinton served as Amanda-Clearcreek's graduation coach from 2014-2017. He started as education career as a social studies and math teacher. He also has dedicated many years to coaching high school athletes. He was the head football coach at Amanda from 2014-2017, and held various head coaching positions for both boys’ and girls’ high school sports from 2007-2014.

“I jumped at the opportunity to apply for the Granville High School principal position because of the district’s academic reputation, as well as extracurricular activities,” said Hinton. “I’m looking forward to getting to know every part of the high school and am excited to build relationships one staff member at a time…one student at a time. This is an incredible opportunity for me and my family, and I can’t wait to get started.”

A total of 23 people applied for the GHS principal position and seven made it to a second-round interview that involved meeting with students, parents, community members, staff, and administration. The third round was a one-on-one interview with Superintendent Jeff Brown that focused on the fit of the candidate for the district.

"We value Scott’s experience, but we also value the collaborative spirit, the energy, and the passion that he has for educating young people…but also learning from them,” Brown said. "We believe that he is the right fit for the high school and the district.”

Mr. Hinton’s official start date is August 1, but Superintendent Brown plans to present an interim contract at the next board meeting to allow Hinton to work over the summer with outgoing principal Matt Durst.

Hinton is an Amanda native and graduate of Amanda-Clearcreek High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from Ohio University and his master's degree from the University of Findlay. He plans to move to Granville with his wife, Lindsay, and three daughters, Ellie, Maggie and Daisy.
