GHS Families,

State testing kicks off Tuesday and Wednesday with English II testing. If your child is testing they will need to report to school by 7:55. School transportation will operate at normal times. If your child will be using school transportation and is not testing, they will report to the study hall area for the morning. Students who are not testing and can provide their own transportation need to report by 10:10 am. No students will be allowed outside of the gymnasium/study hall area until testing is complete. Please see the bell schedules below for testing days.
Attention Seniors and Families,
On Thursday, May 23rd we will hold graduation rehearsal. Rehearsal is mandatory for anyone wanting to walk at graduation. Below is a tentative time schedule for the 23rd:
8:00 - 9:00 - Senior Breakfast (Commons) - Students can also pay fees and turn in Chromebooks if they have not done so already
9:00 - 11:00 - Lineup and graduation rehearsal
11:00 - 11:30 - Senior Photo (Students will need cap and gowns)
11:30 - 11:45 - Transition and load busses for GES
12:00 - 12:15 - GES Senior Walk - Seniors walk the hallways for GES students in their cap and gowns
12:30 - 2:00 pm - Senior Picnic @ Wildwood (Chipotle provided)

Prom Information
Once again Prom will take place at Bryn Du Mansion on Saturday, April 20th. The dance will take place from 8 pm - 11 pm. If your child plans to bring a guest from another school or a current GHS 9th or 10th grader they must complete the guest form below. Please ensure to read all of the rules pertaining to bringing an outside guest to prom on the form.

Tickets for this year's prom will be $50.00 per person. All students will need to use their student ID (lunch code) to access tickets. Seniors will have access to 1 free ticket with their code. Please use the link below to purchase tickets.

Counselor Update
Course Verifications
All students are asked to review the course selections for the 2024-2025 school year. If a student notices a mistake or desires to make a change to their selections, there is a google form on their Schoology group that students need to submit by next Friday, April 19.
 
Junior Postsecondary Check-Ins
The school counselors are offering individual check-ins with all juniors to discuss postsecondary planning. If a student did not have a chance to sign up last week, there are still more timeslots available for Monday, 4/15. If a student needs to meet at another time, they can message their counselor individually. Links below:

Class Officer/Student Council Elections
We will begin the process for student council and class officer elections for the 2024 - 2025 school year. These elections are for upcoming 10th - 12th grade students. We will hold upcoming 9th grade elections at the beginning of next school year. Below is a timeline of the process. All information is shared with the students via Schoology or they can pick up a packet in the office:

Timeline for Application Process:
  • April 19– Applications available on Schoology or Front office
  • April 25 – Applications due 2:45 PM. Submit to Front Office at GHS. No applications will be accepted after this date/time.
  • May 1– List of approved candidates posted by the Front Office of the high school.
  • May 6 – Copy of Speech due to Mrs. Overholt by 3:00 pm.
  • May 17 – Speeches in person in front of grade level
  • May 20 – Online voting
  • May 21 – Election results posted

Class of 2024 Information
Senior Letters: This year we would like to start a new tradition for our 2024 graduating seniors. We asking family, friends, staff and community members to write letters to individual graduates. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for people to leave a lasting message that our seniors can keep forever. If you are interested and willing, please mail or drop off your letters to GHS by Wednesday, May 15th. Each letter must be in a sealed envelope with the students name on it.

Please share with information with friends and family so that everyone has the opportunity to write to our graduates. Students will receive the letters in their Senior Awards Night packet on May 21st.
Mrs. Simmons is collecting early childhood pictures for the PowerPoint presented at the GHS Senior Night on May 21st. Please send the picture in electronic format to [email protected] by April 8th.
Graduation Speeches: We will be having tryouts to speak at graduation on May 8th at 3:00 p.m. in the theater. You need to perform the speech as if you are giving it at graduation. We also will need a printed copy of your speech prior to your tryout. Signups for times can be found in Mrs. Simmons’ room (195).
Senior families please encourage your child to complete the form below. We need help in collecting this information so we can best reward students for their Graduation Seals.

Well Note
Energy drinks actually increase sleepiness. The short-lived boost from the caffeine and sugar ends with a huge crash. Avoid energy boosters altogether. There is no magic drink on the market that will allow students to safely skimp on sleep.
