GIS Weekly Newsletter

Dear Granville Families,
It's that time again that our lost and found is overflowing with jackets, hats, socks, shoes, and water bottles. Please remind your child to take a look at the lost and found in the cafeteria as well as areas in the grade level pods for any missing items. Thank you for your help!
Take care,
Tracie Lees

Triple P Program: Reducing Family Conflict - April 16:
Reducing Family Conflict is a Triple P discussion group program that will help you deal with the day-to-day challenges of parenting teens. Many parents find that conflict between siblings and among family members increases as children move into the teenage years. It can be quite a challenge to know when to intervene in an argument or how to remain calm if you become involved. This program will give you some practical suggestions to help you teach your teens to solve problems peaceably, as well as how to manage problems if you do have family conflict. You will learn how to help your child deal with disagreements without becoming aggressive and how to promote family harmony. Click here for more information.

Sixth Grade T-shirt Order REMINDER:
Annually, 6th grade families have put on an amazing end of the year party for rising 7th graders. We designed a shirt for all students to wear to King’s Island and on the last day of school. The shirts will have the class list on the back and will be a great keepsake for years to come. The party will be during the last day of school and will feature dunk tanks, a photo booth, shaved ice, an inflatable, face painting, music, yard games, and a snack table. The PTO has donated $500 for the event, and we hope to have snacks donated. Look for a signup genius to come home soon. The 6th grade staff have worked hard to make this a memorable event!

GIS Battle of the Books:
Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program that is offered each year for grades 3-6. Students read the books throughout the winter and spring, choose their teammates, then compete against other teams during a school day in May. Students are quizzed on their knowledge of the books in a variety of fun formats. Students do not need to commit to participating at this point, however, they are encouraged to start reading now so they’ll be ready! More info will come in the early spring, but for now, let’s GET READING! Here are the lists of this year’s books:

A Message from Ms. Baker:?
Helping Kids Cope with Anxious Feelings
Everyone feels nervous and worried sometimes. How can we help a child who is having anxious feelings? In general, the goal is not to eliminate anxious feelings altogether, but to help kids learn to move out into the world despite their worries. Check out these six suggestions for helping kids manage feelings of anxiety as well as this guide that explains typical, developmental anxiety at various stages of growth.

WELL NOTE
Energy drinks actually increase sleepiness. The short-lived boost from the caffeine and sugar ends with a huge crash. Avoid energy boosters altogether. There is no magic drink on the market that will allow students to safely skimp on sleep.
