10th Grade SOS - November 28th and 29th
GHS will once again be partnering with Nationwide Children's Hospital to present the SOS - Signs of Suicide Program to all 10th graders only on November 28th and 29th. Through a video and guided discussion, students learn to identify warning signs of suicide and depression. At the end of the session, students will complete a seven-question screening for depression to further encourage help-seeking and connect students at-risk with trusted adults. The curriculum raises awareness about behavioral health and encourages students to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) when worried about themselves or a peer. Please review THIS DOCUMENT from Nationwide Children's Hospital for additional background on the program and for opt-out information. We started this program right before COVID-19 impacted the world. We were not able to hold the program during the 20-21 school year, but brought it back for the 21-22 school year and have continued to do so.
Global Travel Opportunity - Current 9th Grade Students
Dear Granville families,
I’m excited to announce that Granville students are being offered several international educational travel opportunities in 2025.
Please click here to register for a parent information meeting to learn about Ms. Misti Baker’s trip to Iceland in Summer 2025 taking place on Thursday, November 30th at 6:00 PM. There are limited spots available on these trips, so please make sure to RSVP & attend if you and/or your child(ren) are interested in learning more.
At the meeting, you’ll hear all the details, including the itinerary specifics, academic opportunities, costs of the tour and enrollment options – including taking advantage of EF’s risk-free enrollment period.
We know that when students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. By taking part in this experience, students will be given the chance to step outside their comfort zone, experience a new culture, and see the world from a different perspective. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and I would love to have your student participate on one of these adventures.
Can’t make the meeting but want more information? RSVP and select “No but send info.”
Academic Letter Ceremony
If your child has received an Academic Letter in their career at GHS your child should have received an email on October 4th notifying them of the upcoming ceremony on November 29th. The event will take place in the theater at 8 am. We ask that you use the commons entrance to access the theater. There is no need to RSVP to the event. If you have questions please contact Mr. Hinton at [email protected]. The next opportunity for students to apply for an Academic Letter will be in early January. Please have your students be on the lookout for information in Schoology after the first of the year.
Academic Letter Criteria
The school counselors were in Government classes on Wednesday this week and had juniors complete two inventories: the Principles You personality assessment and a Career Interest Inventory. If your student missed that day or is in AP Government, we would like them to complete these inventories on their own. Students can access both assessments by logging in to the scoir.com accounts, clicking on “me”, then “view profile”, and then navigating to the Careers section. Once the assessments are complete, they will be able to view a variety of career matches. We encourage all juniors to learn more about potential careers of interest, and explore education requirements, salary information, and job outlooks of several areas of interest. Students can follow-up with their school counselor at any time to talk more individually about their results.
FAFSA Update for Seniors
Future college students of all ages can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the first step towards securing financial resources available for post-secondary education. By completing the FAFSA, your eligibility for federal and state grants, work-study opportunities, and low-interest loans will be determined by the financial aid offices at the schools/institutions where you’ve applied and have been accepted. Check this website out for more information: https://www.oasfaa.org/fafsa-help-oh
Nationwide Children’s Mechanisms of Human Health and Disease Program
The Mechanisms of Human Health and Disease (MHHD) is a fast-paced, in-depth summer opportunity geared towards highly motivated, mature students who are looking for a rigorous introduction/exploration of the medical field. Students in the MHHD program investigate diseases with lectures from research experts. At the final class, students present their work to family and teachers. This course is lecture and activity based. The deadline for the application is February 12, 2024 and admission is competitive. Find more information and the application HERE.
All interested sophomores will be traveling to CTEC this coming Tuesday for a field trip. After that point, the application will be available and students are encouraged to apply anytime before February 2, 2024.
College App Deadlines
Hey seniors- just a friendly reminder to allow 10 school days before any college application deadline if you are requesting documents to be sent to a college. For December 1st deadlines, get any requests in ASAP. For January 1 deadlines, the target to submit requests would be December 7.

Socks for Seniors
Please watch this short video for more information regarding the campaign.
SOCKS FOR SENIORS
We are excited about the 2nd Annual Socks for Seniors Campaign! Last year was a HUGE success as we collected over 1,000 pairs of socks for homebound senior citizens of Licking County. This year, we are working with our community partners (First Light Homecare, Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice, and Licking County Community Center) to include donated socks from the Socks for Seniors campaign into Licking County Aging's Holiday Care Package for our homebound senior citizens in need. We will collect new socks from November 6 - December 5 in all four Granville school buildings. Thank you for your support.
