Counselor Update

HOBY Youth Leadership
The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) program is a summer experience for sophomores to come together with peers from across the state of Ohio to grow in leadership development and collaboration skills. The leadership seminar takes from June 8-11, 2023 at Marietta College and a student must be nominated by their school counselor to be considered for the program. The deadline to seek a nomination through your school counselor is December 5, 2022. To learn more about HOBY, click here.

College Information Video for Parents of Underclassmen (grades 9-11)
The school counselors have put together this informational video to inform families of the following topics: the GHS college counseling curriculum, easy steps for college searching, college testing, strengthening applicant profiles, and financial aid. Parents are encouraged to watch this video and are also invited to a virtual (only) Q&A session next Tuesday, November 15, from 8:00-8:30PM (zoom link here). Feel free to email any questions that you want addressed to your student’s school counselor ahead of time!

SOS (Signs of Suicide) Program
On December 5 and 6, sophomores will be presented with the SOS Signs of Suicide prevention curriculum during Ace periods. For these two days, Ace period will begin at the start of the day and the bell schedule will operate on a one-hour delay schedule. Through a video and guided discussion, students learn to identify warning signs of suicide and depression. At the end of the session, students will complete a seven-question screening for depression to further encourage help-seeking and connect students at risk with trusted adults. The curriculum raises awareness about behavioral health and encourages students to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) when worried about themselves or a peer. Please review THIS DOCUMENT from Nationwide Children's Hospital for additional background on the program and for opt-out information.

1st Semester Exams

Semester exams will take place December 19th, 20th and 21st. The complete exam schedule is here.
If your child has a unique circumstance that will require them to miss these exam dates, please reach out to Mr. Hinton ([email protected]) by November 22nd to make necessary arrangements.

Whole Child Committee

You are invited to join the work of one of our superintendent committees. The Granville Whole Child Committee is comprised of parents, community members, school staff, and administration. We meet throughout the school year to discuss the scope of the schools beyond academics. Our work includes reviewing exit survey data, providing resources to staff, students, and families, and sharing information with the superintendent related to whole child education in our schools. The next meeting of the Whole Child Committee will be December 14 at 6:30 PM in the District Office. For more information or if you have questions, please contact GES principal Travis Morris at [email protected]. We hope you will join us this school year.

Socks for Seniors
Hello Granville! This holiday season we would like to do something special for the senior citizens in our community. We've teamed up with community partners for the Socks for Seniors campaign. Please join us as we collect new socks to be distributed to our homebound elderly friends, such as those in long-term care facilities. Let's warm up their lives and make it a holiday season to remember! We will have collection boxes at all Granville school buildings, Middle Senior Living, Otterbein Senior Life, Johnstown Pointe, and the Village of Granville office. The Socks for Seniors campaign will begin collecting socks on Monday, November 7 through Friday, December 9. Thank you for supporting those in need in our community!
