The success of Granville athletes over the past week is keeping GHS sports in the news!
Swimming
Congratulations to Granville High School senior swimmer Abby Stone for winning the 100 yard backstroke at the state swim meet in Canton February 27!
The boys and girls swim teams represented the Blue Aces with pride, including the following podium appearances:
Girls 200 Medley Relay - 4th place (Paige Griesse, Sarah Martin, Maggie McGonagle and Abby Stone)
Timmy Spichiger - 8th place in the 200 free
Abby Stone - 2nd place in the 200 IM
Seniors Paige Griesse, Maggie McGonagle, Timmy Spichiger, Grant Stahl and Abby Stone all finished their high school swim careers with remarkable performances in the water. Junior Colin McDermott, Sophomore Rowan Moore and Freshman Sarah Martin also represented the Aces with pride and will be ones to watch next season. Congratulations to all of our swim team members!
In another notable performance, Paige Griesse also had amazing swims in the 200 & 100 Free Prelims placing 19th and 20th in those events.
Wrestling
Granville placed third at the 12-team OHSAA sectional tournament hosted by Licking Valley last Saturday. Senior Christian Price and sophomores Luciano Mendicino, Mathieu Holt and Alex Eckels led the way for the Blue Aces with individual sectional championships in their respective weight classes. Junior Mason Holt and freshman Tristan Haley both earned third-place finishes, while freshman Tristan Rice and sophomore Nick Kurek wrestled to fourth place finishes to round out the GHS wrestlers moving on to the district tournament. Junior Caleb Chapdelaine finished in fifth place to earn a district alternate position.
The district tournament starts at 4 p.m. Friday at Heath High School.
Basketball
Granville overcame a late River Valley rally to beat the visiting Vikings 61-57 in a first-round game. The sixth-seeded Blue Aces (18-5) host seventh-seeded Beechcroft at 7 p.m. Saturday in a second-round game. Cheer on the home team!
Competition Cheer Team
The GHS Competitions Cheer Team placed third in Division II non-mount last weekend at the state cheerleading competition! Way to go, Blue Aces!
